Breitenstein’s 4 TDs lead Wofford past Elon 48-28

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Eric Breitenstein rushed for 217 yards and four touchdowns on 28 carries to pace Wofford to a 48-28 victory over Elon on Saturday.

Three of Breitenstein’s scoring runs came in the first half, when the Terriers (6-2, 4-1 Southern Conference) erased a 14-7 deficit to lead 21-14 at halftime.

Wofford led 35-21 after three quarters when Alvin Scioneaux blocked a punt by the Phoenix (4-5, 2-4) and Qay Bell ran it back 42 yards for a touchdown.

Mitch Allen scored on fourth-quarter runs of 61 yards and 1 yard for the Terriers, who gained 465 of their 478 yards on the ground.

Thomas Harris completed 27 of 35 passes for 342 yards and three touchdowns for Elon, two to Aaron Mellette, who caught nine for 162 yards.

Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson, Wofford’s career leader in touchdown receptions, had his No. 51 jersey retired at halftime.
