Furman scores late TD to beat Chattanooga 14-7

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Jerodis Williams scored on a 10-yard run with 2:06 left to lift Furman past Chattanooga 14-7 on Saturday in a defensive struggle.

In a scoreless first half, the Paladins amassed only 127 yards to 60 for the Mocs. Furman (5-3, 4-2 Southern Conference) finished with 261 yards total offense while holding Chattanooga to 169, including only 3 yards passing.

An interception set up Furman’s first score, a 30-yard field goal by Ray Early with 12:22 to go in the third quarter. Early kicked a 44-yarder with 10:51 to play for a 6-0 lead.

Terrell Robinson scored on a 1-yard run to put Chattanooga (4-5, 2-4) ahead 7-6 with 4:16 left.

Williams capped a five-play, 53-yard drive with his score, and Chris Forcier passed to Ryan Culbreath for the two-point conversion. The Mocs fumbled on the first play of their next two possessions.

Furman has a nine-game winning streak in Chattanooga.
