What the business does: Saint Luke Productions is a live theater and film company based in the Vancouver area and founded by actor and director Leonardo Defilippis. Its mission is to provide inspiring and uplifting entertainment. Saint Luke Productions travels throughout the country presenting plays on the lives of the saints and the Gospels. Over the course of 30 years, it also branched out into creating movies, television shows and radio programming. How has the economy affected your business: The company ships a large theatrical set for each tour of its live-theater productions to locations across North America. With the rising cost of fuel prices, this has affected travel and shipping expenses. As a nonprofit organization, Saint Luke Productions relies on the generosity and commitment of its supporters to meet its production expenses for multiple media projects. Local and national communities have been willing to make sacrifices during these challenging economic times.
Greatest challenge: While Saint Luke Productions is always striving to use new technology, its main priority is to maintain a strict commitment to quality standards. There are several on-site projects in production at one time, which can be a challenging balancing act.
In addition, one of the current challenges is the arena of film distribution — both nationally and internationally. With a limited number of employees who wear many hats, it’s hard to work at a fast pace to meet ever-changing demands.
What’s ahead: St. Luke Productions will be recording radio programs, planning for television projects and a motion picture, and writing a script for a live drama which is targeted to premiere in 2012. It is also expanding its national outreach with projects in Spanish.
