Deliver the goods with U.S. workers

At long last. the Boeing 787 has been certified, reported Aug. 27 “Dreamliner is cleared for takeoff Boeing’s new 787 to go into service in October.” Kudos to the people in Washington state who manufactured a small percentage of the parts, and assembled, finished and tested it.

Not so many kudos to the management team that outsourced almost all of the parts fabrication, causing years of delays in the program as foreign contractors were brought up to speed with new technologies. In the U.S., we have the skilled workers and high-tech facilities to do the total job. Maybe Boeing could use them to bring their projects in on time, and even turn a profit.
