PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled catcher Jason Jaramillo and purchased the contract of left-hander Brian Burres from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Both were in uniform for the Pirates’ game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, when major league rosters expanded to 40 from 25.
Manager Clint Hurdle said Burres is likely to start Friday at Chicago against the Cubs. Burres was 5-9 with a 4.66 ERA in 25 games, 23 starts.
Jaramillo began the season with the Pirates, but has been with Indianapolis since being optioned there April 14. He was limited to 45 games because of an elbow injury, hitting .276 with two home runs and 23 RBIs.
