Week 1 High School Football Preview

The Columbian
Published: September 4, 2015, 6:00am

Game of the week

Camas vs. Chiawana

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday; Edgar Brown Memorial Stadium, Pasco HS, Pasco

Internet radio: www.610kona.com

Last meeting: Camas won 16-14 in 2014

Players to watch: Camas QB Liam Fitzgerald threw for 2,682 yards and 24 TDs last season. Chiawana LB Caleb Weber leads the defense and he’s just a junior. He’ll also play some on offense.

Game notes: The Papermakers won a lot of lopsided games last season, which meant younger players got experience on the field. … Senior Jordan Del Moral takes over the RB duties. … Camas has not lost a season opener since 1998. That’s before many of the Papermakers were born. … Camas is ranked No. 1 in the AP preseason poll; Chiawana was tied for fourth. … Chiawana lost of lot of players off last year’s team that made the state title game. The starting offensive line will have three sophomores and a junior on it. The Riverhawks are looking for a new RB after Austin Urlacher, who rushed for 2,877 yards last season, graduated. Coach Steve Graff challenged his players for missing “a lot of weight training.”
