NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Jake White threw two touchdown passes for Central Connecticut State after starting quarterback Gunnar Jespersen injured his hand early in a 35-21 win over Southern Connecticut on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.

Both of White’s TDs came in the second quarter, one on an 8-yard throw to Deven Baker, and the other on a 31-yard pass to Matt Tyrell.

White was 5 of 9 passing for 74 yards as Central Connecticut State won its 15th home game in a row, tying with Grambling for the longest current streak in the Football Championship Series.

Jespersen threw a 4-yard TD to Baker with 46 seconds left in the first quarter, but left the game after completing 9 of 12 passes for 69 yards.

Kevin Lynch, who brought the Owls to within 28-21 at one point, finished with 223 yards on 22 of 39 passing.
