Talking Points: Sorry Mr. President

The Columbian

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here is an item that will have people talking:

For NASCAR drivers, sponsors trump everything. Even the president.

Vancouver’s Greg Biffle said he will be unable to join other drivers next week when they visit the White House at the invitation of President Obama. Biffle can’t get out of a two-day appearance for primary sponsor 3M in Minnesota.

Before critics go thinking that Biffle is making a political statement, consider this: He joined other drivers in meeting with Obama two years ago and says he has a photograph of him shaking hands with the president on display in his office.

“It was fun,” Biffle told The Columbian after that meeting. “But we didn’t get a chance to talk with him about the health care plan or Cash for Clunkers or building a race track in Washington or anything like that.”
