Hall of Fame defensive end Lee Roy Selmon dies

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The family of Hall of Fame defensive end Lee Roy Selmon says he has died in Florida after suffering a stroke. He was 57.

A statement released on behalf of his wife, Claybra Selmon, says he died Sunday at a Tampa hospital surrounded by family members.

The statement says: “For all his accomplishments on and off the field, to us Lee Roy was the rock of our family. This has been a sudden and shocking event and we are devastated by this unexpected loss.”

His former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, confirmed Saturday that he suffered a stroke.
