Letter: Predictions manipulated politically

The Columbian
Published: September 4, 2011, 12:00am

In the sixth grade, I learned that science equals hypothesis plus repeatable test with controls that can falsify the hypothesis equals repeatable result. Example, Thomas Edison’s idea: More than 3,000 filament tests equals 2,999 failures and one functional light bulb.

Science does not equal scientists’ majority vote or politicians’ statement. Example, science does not equal scientists’ majority vote on (and presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s statement on) human contribution to global warming/cooling/climate change or politically-correct phrase of the day. Human contribution to global “your phrase here” is simply a giant fraud perpetrated by politicians and bureaucrats who want additional tax revenue and control over business and our lives.
