Letter: Recognize labor of diverse roles

A vast diversity is found in the working community of America. We have mothers who choose to stay at home to raise children and manage households. They don’t receive a salary and their work is done at home, but the benefits to society are priceless. There are diverse and extensive volunteer opportunities where, again, there is no salary, but the benefit to the community is inestimable. There are union workers and nonunion workers, white collar workers and blue collar workers, entrepreneurs who own businesses and those who work for the business. Each of these is a spoke in the wheel that runs the economy and moves our country forward.

All workers deserve respect and equal rights, but not special rights. As we approach another Labor Day, let’s appreciate all who labor and recognize their contribution to America and the free enterprise system that allows each of us to be the best we can be.
