A suspicious bag was found about 2 p.m. Sunday at baggage carousel 4 at Portland International Airport, prompting authorities to block some traffic flows through the facility.

Steve Johnson, spokesman for the Port of Portland, said that the lower roadway, past the baggage collection area, was closed for two hours. The airport was fully reopened at 4 p.m.

Johnson said an arriving traveler had several bags and noticed a timer device that she did not own in one of the bags.

The Metro Explosive Disposal Unit was called to investigate.

“It turned out to be non-harmful, non-threatening,” Johnson said. “We erred on the side of caution, and we take anything suspicious very seriously.”

He said he could not provide additional information about the timer or the investigation.
