Nationals’ Strasburg returns _ weather permitting

WASHINGTON (AP) — Stephen Strasburg makes his Washington Nationals return on Tuesday — weather permitting.

The 23-year-old right-hander is set to make his first major league start since having Tommy John surgery a year ago.

However, the forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of rain, and even a delay would probably scuttle the plans and disappoint what is expected to be a sellout crowd.

Whenever it happens, Strasburg’s comeback is another sign of how the remarkable has become the routine, that a doctor can take a tendon from a pitcher’s thigh and use it to replace a damaged ligament in the elbow of the throwing arm.

Strasburg made six rehab starts in the minors. He had 29 strikeouts, three walks and a 3.54 ERA over 20 1-3 innings.
