Clark County at Work: Pacific Rim Log Furnishings

This story appeared first on Saturday, Sept. 3, in the print edition.
Business name: Pacific Rim Log Furnishings.
Owner: Don Ackerman.
Address: 1697 Lewis River Road, Woodland.
What the business does: Don Ackerman makes all styles of log furniture — standard pieces and custom made — including cupboards, armoires, entertainment centers, dressers and beds. He started by selling the furniture out of his home, at trade shows and community fairs. In February, he opened a retail store and now accepts consignments from 40 local artists offering a wide range of interior decor.
How has the economy affected your business: Ackerman said that because of the economy, he had a very slow start when he opened his storefront in February.
Greatest challenge: Finding time to build furniture and also run the retail store. Ackerman said it is like working two full-time jobs.
What’s ahead: Ackerman will be giving his store a facelift and redesign in the near future. He also wants to offer more of his own hand-made interior home accents, such as window and door trim, mantels and railings.
Year established in Clark County: 1997.
Employees: Four direct employees, and the company works with 40 local artists.
