Mars Hill Church postpones Portland opening

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A Seattle-based evangelical church that is moving into Portland has postponed its first service, which had been scheduled for Saturday.

Mars Hill Church Pastor Tim Smith posted a note on the church website saying it did not want to create parking problems because the Belmont Street Fair is being held the same day in southeast Portland's Sunnyside neighborhood.

The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/oS28yX) Mars Hill opponents had planned a "kiss-in" on Saturday to protest the church's stand against homosexuality.
