Puerto Rico makes semifinals of Olympic qualifiers

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina (AP) — Boston Celtics guard Carlos Arroyo scored 26 points and Puerto Rico defeated Canada 79-74 Tuesday to reach the semifinals of the Olympic basketball qualifying tournament for the Americas.

Alex Galindo added 13 points for Puerto Rico.

The Dominican Republic defeated Uruguay 84-76 in the day’s second match to move closer to a berth in the final four.

In late matches, undefeated Argentina was to play Venezuela and Brazil was going against Panama.

Play ends Sunday with the top two teams qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics. The United States won the 2010 world championship and has already qualified for London.
