Gifford Pinchot National Forest — Earl Ford, a civil rights activist and the longtime natural resources staff officer at the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, has postponed a planned retirement so he can keep on giving. In September, Ford will become the forest supervisor at the Plumas National Forest in Northern California. Ford has led youth crews all over the Gifford Pinchot forest in Clark and Skamania counties as part of his Urban Youth program, becoming a key part of U.S. Forest Service outreach to underserved youth in this area.
