A Clark County contractor that had halted work on Portland’s Morrison Bridge could resume its efforts on the $4.2 million job by next week.
On Tuesday, Ridgefield-based Conway Construction resolved its dispute with Multnomah County, Ore., officials over environmental and safety concerns.
At issue was the company’s reliance on plastic tarps to keep debris from falling into the Willamette River. The county ordered Conway to stop work twice in less than two weeks, saying that sparks and drops of molten metal burned holes in the tarps, and that a wind storm may have blown contaminants into the river.
A Multnomah County spokesman said a new containment system will prevent future contamination.
