Letter: America is crying for help

The Columbian
Published: September 7, 2011, 5:00pm

Thousands of American jobs have been lost to foreign countries. While the names of American companies remain intact, the product is farmed out to cheaper foreign labor, causing the loss of income for millions of Americans. Buying “Made in the U.S.A.” is almost obsolete.

In my personal estimation, a presidential order is needed — immediately.

Put a tariff on the “American” product when it reaches our shores. As long as the American name is on the product, tax the American corporation. The American corporations should be taxed on all the profit they receive by outsourcing jobs to foreign countries. No penalty or tax to the foreign country.

The billions of dollars lost by jobs outsourced should be paid back to the American men and women by these tariffs. Keep the tariff on all companies until they reopen their plants on American soil and/or remove their names on foreign-made commodities.

Bring our jobs back and save our country. No more Congressional say-so.

If and when American corporations reopen their plants, make a reduction in their product taxation so as to compete internationally.
