A section of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge will close for road improvements starting Monday, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service announced this week.
The River ‘S’ Unit, located on the east side of the refuge, will be closed from Sept. 12-28 while crews revamp the Auto Tour Route with new gravel and turnouts. One short segment of the road will also be realigned to reduce wildlife disturbance, officials said.
The closure will affect all public facilities and trails inside the River ‘S’ Unit. The refuge’s Carty Unit to the north will remain open.
