PR man found guilty of setting family on fire

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- A Puerto Rico man has been convicted of killing six people and trying to kill seven more by setting them ablaze at his family's New Year's Day dinner.

Judicial spokesman Fidel Rodriguez says a judge is scheduled to sentence Justino Sanchez Diaz on Sept. 12.

He was convicted on Thursday. Rodriguez did not describe the motive.

Among the dead are the suspect's elderly mother and his nephew, Jesus Sanchez, as well as Sanchez's fiance, Kate Donahue of Seattle, Washington.

Sanchez is accused of dousing them with gasoline and setting them on fire with a homemade torch.

The fire occurred at the house of the suspect's parents in the northern mountain town of Florida.
