ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Reigning AL MVP Josh Hamilton has been scratched from the Texas Rangers’ lineup to be with his wife for the birth of their fourth daughter.

Hamilton was originally in the Rangers’ lineup for the opener of a series against Oakland before his wife, Katie, went into labor Friday afternoon.

The Rangers switched Endy Chavez from center field to left field and inserted Craig Gentry into the lineup to play center.
