NEW YORK (AP) — Angelique Kerber and Samantha Stosur will play a U.S. Open semifinal match out of the spotlight.
After rain wreaked havoc with the schedule, tournament officials decided they couldn’t fit four matches on the center court of Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday. And with water on the court at Louis Armstrong Stadium, one women’s semifinal will have to be held on Flushing Meadows’ third-largest venue, the Grandstand.
The women’s semis were supposed to be Friday, with the final Saturday night after the men’s semis. But both rounds were pushed back a day.
So the Kerber-Stosur match will start at 6 p.m. and won’t be televised by CBS. The other semi between Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki will be at 8 p.m. on Ashe.
