INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Dennis Thomas, the chairman of the NCAA Division I infractions committee, is stepping down.
The NCAA said Friday that Thomas is giving up the powerful post due to “unforeseen personal reasons.” Thomas, a former football player and coach at Alcorn State, has been the commissioner of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for the past 10 years.
Thomas will try to remain on the committee until the end of his current three-year term, which ends in August 2012.
The NCAA said Britton Banowsky, the commissioner of Conference USA and former vice-chair of the committee, will serve as the interim chair.
