EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon judge has granted Lane County’s request for a temporary restraining order to prohibit a music festival that’s been planned to begin Friday and last through the weekend.

Once county officials have Circuit Judge Karsten Rasmussen’s order in hand, the county plans to begin barricading off public roads leading to the site near Blachly, northwest of Eugene. County officials say they’re worried about public health, safety and fire risks.

The Register-Guard (http://bit.ly/qx5Lzq) reports that the county contends promoters of the Where Life Begins 2011 festival failed to secure needed county permits for the event, set for land zoned for exclusive farm use.

Event organizer Russell Gorman has encouraged people to attend. Crowds began gathering Friday afternoon at the remote site on a narrow valley floor surrounded by forests.
