WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — The United States Military Academy paid tribute to the victims and heroes of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks during halftime of its game against San Diego State.

After Army cadets passed out American flags to fans before the game, first responders were among those honored during halftime on “Salute the Heroes Day” at Michie Stadium.

A day before the 10th anniversary of the attacks in New York and Washington, a large American flag was unfurled as part of the tribute that included the West Point band.

Fans stopped to sign a memorial banner that will be presented Sunday at ceremonies at Ground Zero. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani spoke during the ceremony.
