Brown leads Illinois St. past Morehead St. 52-21

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Matt Brown tied a career high with five touchdown passes, Ashton Leggett ran for 110 yards, and Illinois State scored the game’s first 31 points and coasted to a 52-21 win Saturday over Morehead State in the Redbirds’ home opener.

Brown attempted only 17 passes and completed just 12, but five of them found the end zone. Tyrone Walker had 120 yards receiving on three receptions, all touchdowns, and Marvon Sanders had 127 yards, most of them on a 73-yard scoring grab. Matt Younger caught Brown’s final touchdown pass, a 21-yarder that made the score 45-7 in the third quarter.

Darrelynn Dunn added a 25-yard rushing touchdown for the Redbirds (1-1).

The Eagles (1-1) got two touchdown passes from Zach Lewis, who finished 35 of 53 for 371 yards passing, but was sacked eight times. Desmond Cox scored on a 1-yard run for Morehead State’s other touchdown.
