ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) — Mike Harris rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns, and Murray State recorded its first shutout in seven years in a 39-0 rout over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.
The Racers (1-1) held an opponent scoreless for the first time since a 38-0 win against Tennessee-Martin in 2004. It was their first road shutout since 1996, blanking Southeast Missouri 16-0 in 1996.
Murray State was never threatened by MVSU (0-2), claiming a 9-0 lead on Harris’ 15-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Harris, who finished with 19 carries, had a 13-yard touchdown as Murray State went ahead by 32 points in the third.
Casey Brockman completed 21 of 33 passes for 238 yards and one touchdown. Hannibal Beauford caught seven passes for 111 yards.
MVSU couldn’t find its rhythm on offense, playing three different quarterbacks. The Delta Devils were held to 213 yards on offense, giving up 452 to Murray State.
