WROCLAW, Poland (AP) — Vitali Klitschko defeated Polish challenger Tomasz Adamek by technical knockout to retain his WBC heavyweight title Saturday.

Italian referee Massimo Barrovecchio stepped in 2 minutes, 20 seconds into the 10th round to stop Klitschko after an utterly dominant performance by the Ukrainian.

The 40-year-old Klitschko was six inches taller than his opponent and used his size advantage, with the 34-year-old Adamek staggering back in the second, sixth and ninth rounds.

Klitschko improved his record to 43-2, including 40 knockouts.

Adamek dropped to 44-2.
