Northern Arizona rolls past Fort Lewis 58-13

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Cary Grossart threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns as Northern Arizona barreled past Fort Lewis 58-13 on Saturday.

The Lumberjacks (1-1) scored on their first two possessions to break the game open against the Skyhawks (1-1), who limited the damage by recovering three first-half fumbles.

Grossart completed 16 of 21 before the second-team offense came in late in the third quarter. He connected with Ify Umodu for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

The Lumberjacks’ Giovannie Dixon ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns, including an 82-yard score in the third quarter.

Zach Bauman added 86 yards and a TD. In all, the Lumberjacks, who debuted the $26-million renovated Walkup Skydome, had 31 carries for 256 yards while the defense held Fort Lewis to 244 yards.

Division II Fort Lewis scored its only touchdown with a 1-yard run by quarterback Tim Jenkins on the first play of the second quarter.
