GOLDENDALE, Wash. (AP) — Authorities in Eastern Washington are warning residents about poor air quality due to a wildfire that has destroyed at least 18 homes near Satus Pass.

The wildfire burning about 10 miles north of Goldendale was 50 percent contained on Monday, despite hot, dry weather in the region.

Firefighters have been helped by a lack of wind, but the light winds also mean smoke tends to hang over valleys.

Authorities say air quality is unhealthy for everyone in both Goldendale and Toppenish, north of the wildfire. Residents in those areas are advised to limit their outdoor activities.
