Youngstown State rolls over Valparaiso 77-13

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Kurt Hess threw for two touchdowns and three Youngstown State backs ran for two each as the Penguins scored touchdowns on their first 11 possessions and overwhelmed Valparaiso 77-13 on Saturday.

Youngstown State (1-1) led 63-6 by halftime and finished with 657 yards and 34 first downs. The Crusaders (0-2) lost their 22nd game in a row after allowing 669 yards last week In a 49-35 loss to Franklin of Division III.

Hess completed 12 of 13 passes, all in the first half, for 204 yards. Adaris Bellamy, Jamaine Cook and Parnell Taylor each rushed for two scores, with Bellamy carrying 23 times for 180 yards and Cook 15 times for 126.

Josh Lee added a 96-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Valparaiso stopped a Youngstown State drive for the first time when it threw Taylor for a 1-yard loss on fourth-and-1 from Valparaiso’s 22 with 2:46 left to play.
