BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — School officials in Blaine, Wash., say Blaine Middle School was briefly locked down after reports that a student had brought a compressed air BB pistol to school. District Superintendent Ron Spanjer says police and the student’s parents were called Monday morning when he was reported missing from class. Police were told that the boy had told others he was going to hurt himself.
The Bellingham Herald reports the campus was locked down for about 20 minutes while police searched. When the boy was found, police say he had an “inoperative” air pistol designed to look like a standard gun. The newspaper says the unidentified boy was arrested.
No threats to other students or staff were reported.
