DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Diego Maradona says he has been unable to watch Argentina play since losing the national team’s coaching job after a disappointing performance in the 2010 World Cup.

Maradona inspired his country to a World Cup win in 1986 as a player but failed to have the same effect as coach. Argentina lost 4-0 to Germany in the quarterfinals of the 2010 South Africa World Cup.

The 50-year-old Maradona was hired to coach Dubai’s Al Wasl in May.

The Argentina great says he’s happy coaching in Dubai despite acknowledging he does “miss my country.”
