PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — An off-duty Portland police officer has been arrested for allegedly drunken driving.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s office says officer Randy Vanderhoof was arrested Friday night when a sheriff’s deputy noticed him sleeping in his car off south Highway 99 in Gladstone.
Vanderhoof is a 19-year veteran of the department’s K-9 unit.
In Sunday’s arrest report, Portland Police Chief Michael Reese says his department will hold people who break the law accountable. He also says officers are under stress and sometimes cope with unhealthy mechanisms. Reese says he’s making sure officers having access to counseling.
