WESTON, Fla. (AP) — Former World Series MVP Manny Ramirez has been arrested in Florida.
Jail records say the 39-year-old slugger was arrested and booked Monday, but no charges were listed. A dispatcher for the Broward County sheriff’s office wouldn’t immediately release any information about the arrest but says the agency is preparing a news release.
Ramirez retired in April rather than face a 100-game suspension for a second violation of Major League Baseball’s drug policy. The 12-time All-Star served a 50-game ban in 2009 while with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Second-time offenders get double that penalty.
Ramirez was named MVP of the Red Sox championship team in 2004.
