The fire-suppression sprinkler system at Maple Grove Middle School will get a major upgrade, thanks to a $100,000 state grant announced Monday.

About $5 million was disbursed to 73 construction projects across Washington, as part of the state’s Urgent Repair Grant program.

Battle Ground Public Schools’ bid for the Maple Grove sprinkler assistance, among competing projects from108 school districts, was the only successful Southwest Washington effort.

The grant program was created and funded by the state Legislature to help schools with critical, one-time safety or health-related repairs, such as fire sprinkler systems and roofs and water systems.
