EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Nets coach Avery Johnson says assistant John Loyer is leaving to join new Detroit coach Lawrence Frank with the Pistons.

Frank is putting together his staff after being hired by the Pistons this offseason. He’s worked with Loyer before. Loyer was an assistant with the Nets when Frank was fired as their coach in November 2009.

Loyer spent two seasons as a New Jersey assistant after four seasons in the same position for the Philadelphia 76ers. He spent the previous five seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers.
