LONDON (AP) — Four separate flames will be lit for the torch relay ahead of next year’s London Paralympics.

Organizers said Thursday that flames will be lit in London; Belfast, Northern Ireland; Edinburgh, Scotland; and Cardiff, Wales.

The torch relay will begin on Aug. 24. A special ceremony will be held in Stoke Mandeville on Aug. 28 to bring the flames together and create the Paralympic flame.

From there, a total of 580 torchbearers working in teams of five will carry the flame to London for the opening ceremony on Aug. 29. The games will run to Sept. 9.

Olympics Secretary Jeremy Hunt says “the torch relay will take the Paralympics to each home nation helping to build excitement for the games and awareness of disability sport.”
