KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Cornerback Brandon Flowers says on Twitter that he’s agreed to a new contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Flowers is in the final year of the rookie contract he signed in 2008. Terms of the new deal were not available. A message left with Flowers’ agent Friday afternoon was not returned.

The Chiefs’ policy is to not announce contract extensions, but Flowers tweeted: “Thanx everyone for the congrats on the new contract…wanted to be a chief forever and we made it happen.”

A former second-round draft pick out of Virginia Tech, Flowers has developed into one of the premier cornerbacks in the NFL. He started 44 of the 45 games in which he’s appeared, making 178 tackles and 10 interceptions. He returned two of the picks for touchdowns.
