SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Friday is not the day to renew your Oregon driver’s license.

The state Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division is closed, along with most other state government offices as workers take a mandatory unpaid day off.

Friday is the first of 10 government “furlough” days over the next two years. It’s part of the state government’s budget cutting.

Nearly all state agencies are closed, but critical public safety workers remain on the job. That includes state troopers and corrections officers, forestry department employees and workers at the Oregon State Hospital.
