Drake holds on to beat Missouri S&T 27-23

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Michael Piatkowski threw two touchdown passes and Drake defeated Missouri S&T 27-23 Saturday night.
Piatkowski found Nathan Paddock for a 16-yard score in the first quarter and the Bulldogs (2-1) went on to build a 17-0 lead. After the Miners closed within 20-14, Piatkowski hit Patrick Cashmore for a 27-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Drake also scored a TD on Brent Shelton's 28-yard return of a blocked punt.
Missouri S&T (1-2), which plays in Division II, came back when Josh Firm threw his second touchdown pass, a 4-yarder to Jake Giljum, and the Miners added a safety when Drake's Billy Janssen was tackled in the end zone with 3:24 remaining. They took possession at midfield, but were unable to get a first down and the Bulldogs ran out the clock.
