Johnson leads Montana to 17-14 victory

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) -- Jordan Johnson rushed for 102 yards and added a touchdown pass Saturday as Montana defeated Eastern Washington 17-14.

Montana (2-1, 1-0 Big Sky), which never trailed in the game, snuffed out a last gasp by the Eagles (0-3, 0-1) when John Kanongata'a intercepted a pass with under 40 seconds to play.

The Grizzlies ran for 316 yards, but passed for only 34. Dan Moore had a 1-yard touchdown run and Brody McKnight added a 35-yard field goal as Montana took a 10-0 lead.

After Eastern Washington pulled within 10-6 on a pair of field goals by Mike Garrett, Johnson threw a 1-yard TD pass to Gerald Kemp in the third quarter for what proved to be the game-winner.

The defending FCS national champion Eagles outgained Montana 376 to 350. Bo Levi Mitchell was 26 for 49 passing for 237 yards, two interceptions and a 4-yard TD pass to Nick Edwards in the fourth quarter.
