McGhee shines as Montana St. beats Minot St. 43-7

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — DeNarius McGhee passed for 227 yards and two touchdowns, and Cody Kirk ran for 75 yards and two scores as Montana State scored 38 first-half points and coasted to a 43-7 rout of Minot State on Saturday.

The Bobcats (2-1) compiled 370 total yards en route to a 38-0 halftime lead before benching their starters for most of the second half. McGhee, who was 13 for 20 passing, threw a 60-yard touchdown to Elvis Akpla in the first quarter and a 7-yarder to Everett Gilbert just before halftime. Kirk scored on runs of 1 yard and 14 yards in the second quarter.

Minot State (0-4), an NAIA program, avoided its second shutout of the season when Bryce Jorgenson scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak with 41 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Jason Cunningham kicked field goals of 49 yards and 41 yards for Montana State, which outgained the Beavers 491-176.
