ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon mayor and city council say they’re willing to work toward a resolution to avoid litigation in a dispute over which court handled drunken driving cases.
But Astoria mayor Willis Van Dusen says the city plans no changes to its practice of handling drunken driving cases in municipal court.
Clatsop County District Attorney Josh Marquis wants to move driving under the influence of intoxicants cases from the Astoria Municipal Court to Clatsop County Circuit Court, which Marquis said is better able to handle those cases.
The Daily Astorian reports (http://bit.ly/rjwuf0 ) that Marquis expects the state to file a civil action against the city within two weeks.
