HELSINKI (AP) — Irish actor Colm Meaney explores the depths of homelessness for his new movie “Parked” at the Helsinki International Film Festival.

The veteran character actor, best known to U.S. audiences for his 12-year stint in Star Trek franchises, plays a down-on-his-luck Irishman who ends up living in his car.

Meaney shares the screen with BBC/NBC “Merlin” star Colin Morgan and Finnish actress Milka Ahlroth. He says the film is about three characters who “have come to a crossroads, they’re all a bit lost” in their lives.

“Parked” is funded with Irish and Finnish money, an arrangement Meaney calls “the way forward” for the European film industry during tough economic times.
