AP honors Columbian photographers

Troy Wayrynen and Steven Lane of The Columbian have won top awards in this year’s Washington-Oregon Associated Press Photo Contest for daily newspapers with circulation of less than 50,000.

Wayrynen won first place for a series of photos about Camas resident Krista Colvin and her battle with breast cancer. The photos and related stories are online at http://www.columbian.com/news/coping-with-cancer.

Lane took third place in the same category for photos of a funeral Mass for Marine Sgt. Jason Peto of Camas, who died of wounds suffered in combat in Afghanistan. That story and its photos are online at http://www.columbian.com/news/2010/dec/18/fallen-marine-remembered-Sgt-Jason-D-Peto.

Ross William Hamilton of The Oregonian won the Reid Blackburn Award, named for a Columbian photographer killed in the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens.
