The first lecture in Washington State University Vancouver’s 2011 Chancellor’s Seminar Series will focus on childhood obesity.

The lecture, “Barriers to Raising Healthy-Weight Children,” begins at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 30 in the Firstenburg Student Commons on the WSUV campus. Dr. Ed Guillery, a pediatrician for Legacy Health, and Jane Lanigan, an assistant professor of human development at WSUV, are the speakers.

Guillery will share tips families can use to help overweight children and address cultural issues that may be barriers. Lanigan will share her research that uncovered common misconceptions and parenting practices that interfere with children developing healthy weight.

Tickets are $25 and include lunch, lecture and parking. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.vancouver.wsu.edu/community or by calling 360-546-9580.
