Clinic offers free medical, dental care

Compassion Ridgefield targets uninsured, underinsured on Saturday

A group of churches, volunteers and health providers are teaming up to offer a free, one-day medical and dental clinic in Ridgefield.

Compassion Ridgefield will transform View Ridge Middle School, 510 Pioneer St., into a local neighborhood health clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. All services are free and provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The clinic is open to those who are uninsured, underinsured or unable to obtain treatment.

In its fifth year, Compassion Ridgefield will offer services including dental cleanings and emergency treatment; medical exams, treatment and prescriptions; breast exams and referrals for mammograms; eye exams and referrals for free glasses; chiropractic exams; physical therapy; foot care; individual nutrition counseling and nutrition classes.

The event also will feature a social services fair with 30 organizations offering help and support. Free clothing, gently used sports equipment, haircuts, massages and nail care also will be offered.

A kids zone will include a cake walk and face painting, as well as visits from library, police and fire officials.

A free lunch, sponsored by The Vancouver Clinic, will be hosted from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

In 2014, Compassion Ridgefield provided 54 dental exams, 74 X-rays, 44 cleanings, 44 tooth extractions, 23 fillings and two root canals. The event also provided 40 medical exams, 27 vision exams, 19 chiropractic appointments, 12 foot care exams and 11 physical therapy appointments.

In addition, 92 people received free haircuts; 29 people got massages and 28 people received manicures.

This year’s event is hosted by five local churches: Pleasant View Church of the Nazarene, Ridgefield Church of the Nazarene, Ridgefield Community United Methodist Church, Mountain View Christian Center and Messiah Lutheran Church in Ridgefield.
