NEW YORK (AP) — Phil Hughes has been scratched from his start for the New York Yankees against Tampa Bay because of a back spasm.

Hector Noesi replaced Hughes as the starter for the opening game of Wednesday’s day-night doubleheader against the Rays.

Hughes felt sore after Friday’s bullpen session in Toronto, and the Yankees had pushed back his next start from Monday.

New York manager Joe Girardi said he’s unsure when Hughes will pitch again but he hopes to have the right-hander make another appearance before the start of the playoffs.
